Delaware County Building Plaza – Muncie, IN

RMA was the lead consultant on this $620,000 project to renovate the existing 50-year-old concrete pedestrian plaza on the public square in downtown Muncie, Indiana. The project included converting the area into a parking lot for people with disabilities and community greenspace. The project incorporated green infrastructure initiatives and has been used for outreach and education on stormwater best management practices. The Delaware County Building Plaza was completed in 2011 and was the first major project in the City of Muncie to feature green infrastructure almost entirely and through its involvement with the Delaware County Stormwater office has become a catalyst for many projects throughout the City to use green infrastructure. The project was the recipient of the “Outstanding Stormwater Project Award” from the Indiana Association for Floodplain and Stormwater Management (INAFSM) in 2012. The project was also included in a OCRA (Indiana Office of Community & Rural Affairs) GI Curriculum and Training case study in 2015.

RMA was involved in all phases of the project, including the site survey, civil engineering design and construction documents, construction engineering and staking, and construction administration.
